Not St Neots actually but a wave just south of Hossegor in the south of France
Surfing

Ok St Neots isn't known for its great surf, in fact we're two hours away from our local beach and that works annually without fail when I'm not about.

Surf trips have kind of taken over where road trips left off and here are some of the best.

Cornwall - The best consistent surf in England without much contention. A five hour drive will get you to Newquay which is a great place to start. Newquay is filled with bars, clubs and girls. A fantastic place for the party surfer. If you want to get away from the crowds Crantock and Watergate bay are within a few mile drive and offer a little bit less bustle than Fistral. The Harbour at Newquay is great on a big swell and favourable wind conditions. My favourite spot is South Fistral, Pentire headland offers a little shelter. Get in off the rocks and get ready for a beating when the surf picks up. Further South there's St Ives which picks up alot of swell and porthleven, a quaint little fishing village with a few good pubs. Don't let the locals talk you into going to the local club. It's not local and it's not a club.

Wales - Stunnning I tend to visit the area around Porthcawl with work alot and always take my board. Some of my favourite bays in the country. A chilled out atmosphere and good waves make for a really enjoyable experience. At some point in 2010 I really want to check out some of the Gower reefs which are meant to be pretty lethal.

Hossegor - A serious surf trip, you'll need a week at least. A vehicle that you don't mind writing off. A driver who can do a 11 hour stint while only stopping for petrol and a quiver that's good for 12ft beach break. There's something like 200km of white sand beach all the way down the coast from Lacenau which is about the closest beach to Bordeaux down to Biaritz where it starts getting rocky. Every 50miles or something you may come across a rivermouth but that's about it. White sand, warm water and the best wine in the world. Lacanau is well worth checking out but whenever we've been it always seems a little like a ghost town in the evenings. Like Newquay in winter I guess. Hossegor is a magnet for beautiful women, waves and wine. It really is a small piece of paradise on earth. Rock food and Dicks sand bar provide a great evening venue for nights out. The beach is so vast if it gets busy just walk up or down the coast.
